Float are one of Scotland’s most dynamic scale-ups within the burgeoning FinTech space.  Based in Edinburgh’s iconic CodeBase – the largest tech incubator in the UK – Float are on a mission to put cash flow at the heart of every business.  Their online cash management and forecasting tool provides a real time view on the state of any business, allowing leaders to have confidence in their decision making and take a better view on the future of their business.


The role

As part of their scale-up journey, Float were keen to add a dynamic, technically capable and established CTO to the leadership team.  Given the hugely competitive nature of the technology market in Scotland and the demand for Senior Technology leaders it was essential to differentiate this role from the rest of the market whilst also ensuring any potential candidates were aligned to Floats vision and values.

The process

After a variety of face to face briefings Eden Scott’s TalentSpark Team mapped out a full recruitment process from drafting of specific role specifications through to long list and interview timelines.

The key focus was on finding ‘The Why’ and making sure this role stood apart from anything else on offer in the market. Our in-house Marketing and Communications Team created a bespoke microsite to highlight the longer term opportunity, the unique nature of the product and the outstanding culture being harboured across the team at Float.

This ran in conjunction with the work of the Delivery Team who drove an extensive search and selection process – from initial screening to competency-based interview – and presented a shortlist of some of Scotland’s best technology leaders.  



After a streamlined and effective interview process – with the TalentSpark Team on hand at every step of the process – the successful CTO joined them. 

This was a crucial appointment for the team at Float as they are rolling out an ambitious plan to expand across the globe
