ODx - Director of Microbiology Based from their R & D centre in Inverness, ODx Innovations is developing innovative, rapid and cost effective point of care (POC) medical devices to help address the challenge of Antimicrobial resistance. The organisation now seeks to appoint a Director of Microbiology.   The role This is a hugely exciting opportunity for an experienced Director of Microbiology to lead the organisation's strategic and operational microbiology/bacteriology activities and oversee the development of microbial methods and procedures to ensure diagnostic test development, design and quality goals are exceeded. You will have a wide range of duties and responsibilities including;
  • Directing all Microbiology management activities including recruitment, mentoring and development of staff
  • Management of the company's bacteriology work ensuring utilities, facilities, materials and test development and supporting microbiology activities conform to company requirements for diagnostic device development
  • Establish and communicate high performance standards, define clear accountability, and lead all operational activities by adopting development and improvement strategies to exceed the company's goals through efficient & accurate laboratory processes and procedures.
  • Manages the laboratory budget for microbiology, headcount and capital equipment.
  • Coordinate Microbiology functions with operational activities across ODx and its subcontractors to support the very rapid development and testing of an effective novel AST.
  • Ensure implementation and maintenance of quality systems, including SOP writing, deviations, technical report review and staff training.
  • Interact with sponsors and subcontractors to determine product & process development, testing & monitoring activities of new tests.
  • Represent the company as a subject matter expert for microbiological matters, and any internal & external audits and assume responsibility for the resolution of any audit deficiencies.
Degree qualified, ideally, possessing a post graduate qualification, you will be able to demonstrate proven experience as a Director of Microbiology, or similar role, within a successful Medical Device / Life Sciences organisation. You will have a wealth of experience in antibiotic sensitivity testing gained in a clinical setting combined with a broad knowledge of bacteria causing human bacterial infectious diseases, clinical diagnostic testing and antibiotic therapies of choice. In addition, you will have first class people management skills gained within a laboratory environment, managing daily operational activities. Knowledge and experience of native urine testing would be a distinct advantage.
